It was a slogging go on a heavy surface but the Ryan & Alexiou-trained galloper Steely ($6) has shown an explosive turn of foot to take out the ACY Securities Handicap over 1800m at Randwick.

The All Too Hard gelding was dominant on the line defeating race favourite Great House ($3.20F) by three-and-three-quarter lengths with a brave Toryjoy ($13) a further three quarters of a length back in third after doing all the work on-speed.

Although being up for over five months, the rising five-year-old is showing no signs of stopping to the marvel of co-trainer Gerald Ryan.

"He's had eight runs for four wins this prep and he just keeps getting better," Ryan said.

"I was thinking about turning the horse out, you know how long do you keep going?

"But he parades well, he's holding his condition, he's enjoying life and there's good stake money around for him to be won. I'll speak to the owner and see where he heads."

Jockey Josh Parr was equally impressed with the potential stayer and believes the sky's the limit for the gelding. Parr has been in the irons for three of this campaign's four victories and will be looking to retain the ride moving forward.

"I like the versatility he showed today," Parr said.

"He didn't begin that well and I was beaten for a one-one spot by Brenton (Avdulla on Ballet Master) so I tucked in behind Great House. He travelled really nicely and his turn of foot was really good.

"The improvement he's taken from his win at Rosehill to today is extraordinary.

"He's won untouched there pulling away from them so onwards and upwards for him. It will be interesting to see where he can get to."

The win was Steely's seventh of his career and takes his earnings to over $330,000.
