Rule The World a family affair for Bowmans

Mack Griffith didn’t have to think twice when it came to finding a jockey for new recruit Rule The World.

There will be an added incentive for Hugh Bowman to win aboard Rule The World at Rosehill with both his father Jim and manager Bryan Haskins in the ownership of the horse.

The former Tulloch Lodge galloper is prepared by Mudgee-based horseman Mack Griffith , who also works for Rule The World's former owners, Gooree Park Stud

When the four-year-old came up for sale, Griffith put together a group of friends and clients to race him.

"He's from Gooree where I work. They owned him and he didn't fit into the criteria of horses they like to keep, being a gelding, so I got a few friends together and snapped him up," Griffith said.

"He's a lovely horse. He's been through the system here since he was a yearling, so I've always followed him and know what he is all about.

"He hasn't changed too much. We're not going to try to reinvent the wheel, we'll just keep him happy, poke along and see what we can do with him."

Rule The World will have his first start for Griffith in Saturday's The Agency Real Estate Handicap (1200m).

With his father and manager as part-owners, Hugh Bowman was an obvious choice as rider, having also enjoyed a lengthy relationship with Griffith.

"Hugh has ridden for me for 15-odd years," Griffith said.

"I've trained horses for Hughie's father for a while and Bryan has also been in a few other horses with me.

"He's forward enough to run a good race. They might be a bit sharp for him over 1200, normally he's first-up over 1300 or 1400, but as long as he's hitting the line I'll be happy."

A four-time city winner for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Rule The World was a $13 chance with TAB fixed odds on Friday.
