Bjorn Baker has fallen one win short in his battle with Godolphin's James Cummings for second position on the Sydney trainers' premiership as the all-conquering Chris Waller captured his eleventh successive title.

Baker and Cummings went into the final meeting of the season at Randwick on Saturday locked at 57 victories apiece.

Godolphin struck early, taking out the opening race on the 10-event card with three-year-old Tamerlane before adding another withValaquenta in the Fujitsu General Handicap (1100m).

Baker got on the board in the final race when Night Of Power stormed down the outside but it was not enough to reel in the global powerhouse.

Godolphin has always held Valaquenta in high regard and scratched him from a Listed race in Adelaide to run at Randwick.

While Cummings was left to wonder what might have been, he was pleased to see the horse get the win.

"You can see what races we've run him in the past, at his second start he was running in a lead up to the Blue Diamond," Cummings said.

"He's done a good job and he's won good prize money already building a nice record."

Waller and jockeys' premiership winner James McDonald put the icing on the cake to their respective seasons, combining to end the racing year on high with a double courtesy of So Wicked and Wairere Falls.
