Best Of Days is one of the mainstays of the Australian Godolphin operation and he is about to embark on another spring campaign.

The recently turned eight-year-old is gearing up for his fourth Spring Carnival down under after first appearing on the scene in 2018.

His latest campaign kicks off on Saturday in the Group 2 P B Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield, a race the Godolphin team has had good success in over recent years.

Hartnell won for Godolphin and James Cummings in 2017 while Savatiano was successful last year.

Best Of Days emerged on the Victorian scene during Caulfield Cup week in 2018, sharing the prize with Mask Of Time in the Coongy Cup and then at his next start was successful in the Group 1 Cantala Mile at Flemington during Melbourne Cup week.

The son of Azamour was then winless until he scored in the Group 3 Carlyon Cup (1600m) at Caulfield in February, having had a number of near misses along the way.

One of those was on a trip to Perth for the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot where Regal Power got his measure.

But for some divine intervention, Best Of Days could have been a dual Group 1 winner when outbobbed by Homesman in the Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington in March.

Days earlier, Michael Gudunski, a part-owner of Homesman, died suddenly and while Best Of Days tried valiantly, he just couldn't match it Homesman.

Cummings said Best Of Days was in good order ahead of his return on Saturday, which included a jump-out over 800m up the Flemington straight on Monday.

"He worked like a Newmarket Handicap horse this week and I wouldn't be surprised to see him run a forward race," Cummings said.

"He had such a solid campaign last time in, he pulled out an excellent effort to finish second in the Australian Cup in the autumn and his Caulfield record speaks for itself."
