Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young hold New Zealand-bred mare Impecunious in high-esteem.

After a maiden win in New Zealand, Impecunious scored on debut at Caulfield for Busuttin and Young and was then aimed at bigger filly autumn races earlier in the year, heading straight to stakes level.

Impecunious was galloped on in the Group 2 Armanasco Stakes at Caulfield in February before heading to Sydney the following month, where she finished third in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes and the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes.

Her three-year-old campaign came to a close when a fading ninth in the Group 1 ATC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick in April.

The daughter of Sacred Falls is set to kick-off her spring campaign at Sandown on Wednesday in the Thank You MRC Members Handicap (1300m), a benchmark 78 grade race.

"She trialled nicely last Monday week and she has ticked over nicely from that," Young said.

"It's a nice place to kick her off and get her campaign under way.

"We've got her nominated for all the good races and we want to get her out in trip a bit later on but she's only won over 1200 metres for us so far."

Young said Impecunious would be ridden quietly on Wednesday as when pressed forward previously she does not finish her races off.

Another Busuttin and Young galloper set to kick-off his spring is the Snitzel three-year-old colt Zerelle who runs in the Ladbrokes Blended Multi Handicap (1300m).

Zerelle won over the trip at his second start in March and Busuttin and Young have the three-year-old entered in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas.

"He also trialled up last Monday with blinkers on and did it hard held and I think he's got a lot of potential," Young said.

"Hopefully he might develop into a Guineas horse, but we've got a nice bunch of three-year-olds that we hope might make it to the bigger spring races."
