Well-known radio broadcaster Shawn Cosgrove cheered the house down when Powering scored at Taree during the week.
Tuncurry trainer Terry Evans has been long-time friends with Cosgrove and put him in the ownership for the horse with any winnings going to Cosgrove's favoured charity, Brainwave, which helps children with disabilities achieve greater independence.
"Shawn is a passionate racing man and is a patron for Brainwave," Evans explained. "We thought it a great idea that I'd put him in the ownership and any prizemoney for his share heading to the charity.
"Shawn also makes bridles and reins by hand and sent a set up for Powering who carried them to victory. Hopefully, there are more wins in store for Powering."
Evans is heading back to Taree next Friday with half a dozen runners, including Holburt who will start in the feature event, the $34,000 Hopkins Livermore Cup (1400m).
Holburt was formerly prepared in Victoria and has had just the one run for Evans when a solid sixth at Port Macquarie.
"He ran well first-up and will be improved by the run. We're setting him for the Tuncurry Cup (10 September)."
Evans summed up the prospects of his other runners, including Par Avion in the Dillon Rural Class 2 Handicap (1400m): "She is racing consistently and is always a chance in these types of races."
Maasai Mara (Tony Ball Racing Class 1 Handicap, 1000m): "She ran well first-up, not having started since March. She hadn't had a trial, so she is going to improve a great deal."
Anime (Mid Coast Automotive Class 1 & Maiden Plate, 1600m): "She hasn't been far away and probably should've gone close to winning at Port Macquarie after being trapped wide all the way."
Robarge (Banksia Turf Fillies & Mares Maiden, 1250m): "She looked home at Coffs Harbour when a couple of lengths clear at the 200m but was run down late. That was only her second start, and she can gallop. I bought her in New Zealand with Andrew Reichard who prints the Bluebloods magazine."
Pulitzer Prize (R & L Refrigeration Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden, 1250m): "He's had just the run for us and he made good ground late. He recorded the second-fastest last 600m, so it was a decent effort."
Helen Sinclair, Manning Valley Race Club's executive officer, said: "We expect next Friday to be run under the 'no attendance' restriction, with no owners, public, members – only licensed persons.
"We raced on Tuesday and the track performed extremely well but we haven't yet determined the rail position for Friday."
