2021 MING DYNASTY QUALITY - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Ming Dynasty Quality is a Group 3 race run under quality handicap conditions for three year olds usually at Rosehill conducted by the Australian Turf Club.

The Ming Dynasty Quality is run over 1400m. It was first run in 1977 and was won by Little Diamond.

The Ming Dynasty Quality has been run at Randwick and Warwick Farm and has been moved to Rosehill in 2017. The race in 2021 had to be run at Kembla Grange due to geographic coronavirus protocols.

The Ming Dynasty Quality has swapped between Listed and Group 3 company but has been G3 from 2013.

The race is named after a grand stayer in Ming Dynasty who won two Caulfield Cups, three years apart. He also won a couple of Australian Cups two years apart.

More Than Great won by a nose in 2009 over a reasonable horse in So You Think in a very close finish. So You Think would win a Cox Plate three runs later as a 3yo.

Lonhro and Kenwood Melody would win a Caulfield Guineas following wins in the Ming Dynasty.

Lion Tamer won the Victoria Derby at the end of his 2010 campaign after earlier taking this race. He had won a Champagne Stakes at Ellerslie as a 2yo before a spell. Quick Thinker did the same thing in 2019 also for Murray Baker (and Andrew Forsman).

The 2007 race was not held due to the Equine Influenza break out.

The 2021 Ming Dynasty Quality was run for prizemoney of $160,000.

Notable winners of the Ming Dynasty Quality include Holyfield (2020), Quick Thinker (2019), Panzer Division (2014), Tatra (2012), Ambidexter (2011), Lion Tamer (2010), Predatory Pricer (2008), Dane Shadow (2004), Lonhro (2001), Kenwood Melody (1998), Adam (1997), Magic Of Sydney (1996), Muirfield Village (1992), Kinjite (1991), Royal Pardon (1988) and Drawn (1985).
