James Cummings has declared the Winx Stakes the right form line for Saturday's Chelmsford Stakes and says Cascadian will be hard to hold out in the Group 2 feature.

Four horses who contested the first Group 1 of the Sydney season will clash again at Randwick – She's Ideel (third), Cascadian (fifth), Think It Over (sixth) and Master Of Wine (tenth) – and Cummings predicts the Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) winner will come from that group.

"Plenty of winners will come out of that race," Cummings said of the Winx Stakes in which Mo'Unga edged out glamour mare Verry Elleegant

"I would be surprised if the winner of the Chelmsford doesn't come from it."

Cascadian stormed home from second last on the turn to finish less than half a length from Mo'unga after being tightened for room late.

While he has just two placings from six second-up runs, he does boast a 50 per cent strike rate over the course and distance and Cummings is expecting another bold performance from the Doncaster Mile winner.

"It's a good weight-for-age contest at Group Two level. I think it is the perfect race for him en route to the George Main," Cummings said.

Early markets also suggest the Winx Stakes form will stand up with Cascadian a $3.60 favourite, ahead of Think It Over at $4.60 and She's Ideel, who is on the third line of betting as a $7 chance.

Dual Group 1 winner Montefilia ($13) resumes in the Chelmsford in what will be a serious test of her spring credentials.

Some of the better three-year-olds struggle to make the grade at four and while trainer David Payne is quietly confident Montefilia won't be one of them, the mare needs to prove she is worthy of a Caulfield Cup preparation.

"She has come back really well. It's always a tough transition from three to four but I think she's got the ability," Payne said.

"We'll see if she's up to the Caulfield Cup.

"If she can do it, that's where she'll go. But she's got to put her hand up."
