2021 THE RUN TO THE ROSE - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Run To The Rose is a Group 2 race run under Set Weights and Penalty conditions for three year olds usually at Rosehill conducted by the Australian Turf Club.

The Run To The Rose is run over 1200m. It was first run in 2003 and was won by Gilded Youth.

The Run To The Rose was run over 1300m until 2011 then reduced in journey and has only been at Rosehill except for 2021 when it was forced to be moved to Kembla Grange due to geographic coronavirus protocols.

The Run To The Rose was Listed to 2006, then Group 3 until 2015 when upgraded again to Group 2.

It is the traditional lead up to the Golden Rose and so with that race slightly later in the calendar then this race is also back a fortnight.

The Crown Lodge/Darley/Godolphin (Hawkes/Snowden/O'Shea/Cummings) operation has won the race eight times.

The Run To The Rose was worth $200,000 in 2021.

Those to do The Run To The Rose/Golden Rose double are Paratroopers, Denman, Hallowed Crown, Exosphere, Astern and Bivouac.

The 2019 edition not only had the Golden Rose winner but also the Everest and Coolmore Stud Stakes winner.

Notable winners of The Run To The Rose include Rothfire (2020), Bivouac (2019), Lean Mean Machine (2018), Menari (2017), Astern (2016), Exosphere (2015), Hallowed Crown (2014), Pierro (2012), Smart Missile (2011), Denman (2009), Mentality (2006), Paratroopers (2005) and Eremein (2004).

The 2020 Run To The Rose was won by Rothfire from Ole Kirk and North Pacific.
