2020 Group 3 Vamos Stakes winner Deroche and recently crowned 2020/21 Ladbrokes Tasmanian Horse of the Year Newhart are in action at Sandown on Saturday, aiming to replicate the form they've shown in their home state.

Deroche appears in the opening race, a benchmark 90 over 1000 metres where she will carry the topweight of 60kg.

A winner at 11 of her 18 career starts, the five-year-old mare is second-up on Saturday following a win in Devonport on 5 September.

The daughter of Needs Further and Buzzing Along led in Devonport in what was just a field of three, but her trainer says she is versatile if required.

"She's not just a speed machine, she's better off with a sit," said Barry Barry Campbell when appearing on Tasracing Talk.

"She's got a terrific record second-up, so we thought we'd get that run out of the way and not change her pattern too much," added the trainer.

Stablemate Newhart contests the Listed Testa Rossa Stakes (1300m) and while he hasn't had a race start in Tasmania this campaign, he has trialed twice in preparation.

"He has won twice first-up, he runs well fresh, and his best win was probably over 1400 metres when he beat Mystic Journey," said the trainer referring to Newhart's win in the 2021 Thomas Lyons in Hobart.

"He is a good horse this bloke," stated Campbell emphatically.

Both horses will be ridden by Craig Newitt who knows the horses well having tasted feature success with them in the past.

On his home track in Devonport this Sunday, Campbell takes a team of three up and coming horses to the races, all with strong winning chances.

Freelancer (race 6) comes off a last start second, Assaranca (race 7) will sport the Star Thoroughbred colours and looks suited up in distance but it's the resuming Le Cadeau (race 5) that Campbell rates as his best chance of the day.

"His form is pretty ordinary lately, but I think he will win tomorrow (Sunday)," said Campbell confidently about the four-year-old gelding who hasn't won since his two-year-old season.
