Smart team to head across the border

3 minute read

Canberra Trainer Todd Smart is eyeing off one of the final slots in this year’s Kosciuszko with his talented galloper Washington Towers.

The five-year-old gelding will step out tomorrow, Tuesday 28 September, at Queanbeyan in a strong TAB Federal (1000m) looking to add to his impressive record (11-4:1:1).

Resuming in a Benchmark 66 (1010m) at Moruya a fortnight ago, Washington Towers was far from disgraced when third under a big weight of 61.5kgs.

He drops 4.5kg here after the 2kg claim of leading Apprentice Damon Budler and has impressed previously second up.

"He's travelling very nicely," trainer Todd Smart said.

"A nice drop in weight should see him really hard to beat here.

"The goal is still to get him into the Kosciuszko and I think he's capable of a big win here that could put him right in the picture."

Washington Tower's stablemate Honeysuckle Choice whose rich vein of form has saw her in the placings three of her previous four starts will also line up in Tuesday's feature.

"Her recent runs have been really pleasing," Smart said of Honeysuckle Choice.

"She's drawn to get a soft run and she loves racing at Queanbeyan.

"It's a strong race but I think my two should be right in the finish."

Smart will bring a nice team across to Queanbeyan with Arcadia Power, Loose Love and Polished Diamond all realistic chances in their respective assignments. Tomorrow's TAB Federal is Race Seven on the program and is scheduled for a 4:25pm start.
