Winning Trainer: Peter Moody

"We needed to have a good gallop and take improvement out of today. Now we got to the Caulfield Cup and Mount Popa made sure we had a good gallop.

"Brett thought that he wanted to be on the inside, he thought the inside was the best part of the track so he made endeavours to hold that so it ended up being a good test.

"Showed a lot of courage. He's a bloody tough horse, isn't he.

"He's been there to be beaten the length of the straight in both of his runs but he's shown terrific courage. This will really bring him on for the Caulfield Cup in two weeks.

"He came into this slightly soft and still learning about the horse and believing that this will just top him off lovely. Really looking forward to a couple of weeks time.

"He'll just stay at home he next two weeks at Pakenham. The team do a great job. They give us the facilities to train on. Big thanks to them. And also to the boys at Caulfield and Moonee Valley that have allowed us to have gallops there also, thanks to them for preparing him for today.

"He'll go a bit of pace work on Saturday and have a little spin Tuesday week, something like that. I'll see how he pulls up out of this and that will guide me."

Winning Jockey: Brett Prebble

What a performance from the horse: "It's a big effort from him today. I'm proud of him. They didn't leave him alone, he didn't get much peace, but I'm fortunate he's a very kind horse and he doesn't take the bridle. He conserves his energy.

"But he was going half-a-second quicker than I would have to for the first thousand but then I let him work up through his gears from the half-mile. He gave me a good feel and I thought he was going to win and then he hit a flat patch about the 400 metres and I would have liked another gear there, but there wasn't.

"He couldn't go much faster but he could see that other horse coming at him. I really loved him last 100, he was strong through the line and was really in his groove today. It was a real stayers feel. He can take it and he cop whatever is served at him and ran them into the ground. He showed today it was no fluke his last Group 1 . He's pretty cool."

That feeling when he can lift when at his bottom: "He's got his mouthguard in and really has a dip for you. It's hard to get a horse like that."

Looking forward to Caulfield Cup: "I got beaten in the shadows of the post in one on Circles Of Gold and I've had a few tries at it, but I must say I've never had a weight-for-age horse going into it with 55 kilos, so I'm pretty happy with the seat I've got.

"He's not very far away. We wanted to give him a proper gallop today and we did that and he's come away with a Group 1 win and he had some good ones behind chasing him. They had their chance.

"It was a bit firmer deck that Verry Elleegant would have liked, but that's what we had to deal with today, but he's put his hand up and he's the real deal."

Back on the big stage: "I've come from the bottom so it is a good feeling."

Beaten jockeys:

Ben Allen - Sir Dragonet: "Ridden upside down. It was a good gallop."

John Allen - Explosive Jack: "He ran super. He was hitting the line good and that should toughen him up nicely for the Caulfield Cup."

Verry Elleegant - Damian Lane: "Slightly disappointing on face value, I guess. She travelled sweetly in the run and presented well. I feel like she didn't quicken as good as she can.

Lachie King - Johnny Get Angry: "I think something might be wrong with him so we'll have to see how he pulls up."

Daniel Stackhouse - Chapada: "Super run. Nice to have him back in the top three."

Luke Currie - Persan: "It was ok. He was a bit flatfooted when they sprinted but that will bring him on for Caulfield."

Fred Kersley - Mount Popa: "Disappointing. Not sure what went wrong there."

Daniel Moor - Young Werther: "Really good, really pleasing. He'll improve out of that too."
