The $107,250 Listed Hill Smith Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville shapes as the back-up plan for Ciaron Maher and David Eustace with Hitotsu.

First emergency for the Saturday's $2m Group 1 Caulfield Guineas, Hitotsu is also among entries for the $1m Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Hitotsu finished 10th in Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield in February before catching the eye when sixth in the Group 2 VRC Sires at Flemington in March which saw him join the Maher/David Eustace stable.

He made his debut for his stable with an impressive win at Donald last month and is one of seven Hill Smith nominated horses entered for the Group 1 VRC Derby later this month.

Danny O'Brien has three horses among Hill Smith entries and all Derby nominated - Man Of Heart and Shabalala, while his filly Blackcomb is in both the Derby and Kennedy Oaks.

Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr's Jungle Magnate was a Sandown winner on debut beating Mac 'N' Cheese and also holds a nomination for the rich Bondi Stakes in Sydney well as the Victoria Derby.

Anthony and Sam Freedman could chase successive wins in the feature with Cerberus who has been also nominated for maidens at both Cranbourne and Benalla on Friday.

Local horseman Travis Doudle holds a Derby nomination with Max Fire who stepped up from an Oakbank maiden win to score at Morphettville last time.
