In less than two weeks Goulburn Race Club will host gallopers from up and down the Hume Highway for the Goulburn Cup Country Showcase program on Sunday 31st October.

The feature is the $200,000 Goulburn Soldiers Club Goulburn Cup over 1400m.

The 2021 edition of this year's race marks the first time that the Goulburn Soldiers Club has secured naming rights for the Cup, something acknowledged by Goulburn Race Club's CEO, Robyn Fife as an ideal fit.

"Our race club is extremely excited to have Goulburn Soldiers Club join us in presenting the Goulburn Cup in 2021," Ms Fife said.

"They are an organisation with a strong presence in our local community and a tremendous track record of supporting people, the community and events on the Goulburn calendar."

The Goulburn Cup is a genuine target race just outside of traditional Metropolitan and Provincial options and the whole program now attracts participants from a cross section of the industry.

Last year's Goulburn Cup result featured a big dash of 'local' with Al Mah Haha (Tash Burleigh) nailing Chat (John Thompson) right on the line with Handle The Truth rounding out the top three.

The depth of form from last year's race has held up well. Chat recently won the Theo Marks Stakes, Al Mah Haha has notched Metropolitan placings this spring and Handle The Truth beat all but one in The Kosciuszko on Saturday.

Apart from the Cup there will also be genuine interest in the support races on the card including The Spendthrift Guy Walter ($50,000) Class 3 for fillies and mares, The Graeme Spackman Memorial Country Magic ($50,000) B66 over 1600m and The Country Maiden Showcase Plate ($40,000) over 1200m.

With almost half a million dollars in prizemoney on offer across the card, the Goulburn Cup program is a strong link in a chain of spring racing highlights throughout NSW during October.

On track patronage will be allowed at this year's Goulburn Cup under COVID-19 guidelines as set down by NSW Health and Racing NSW. Contact the club for more details.

Nominations for the Goulburn Cup program on Sunday 31st October close next Tuesday (26th October) at 11am.
