Campbell set to strike in Launceston

Hall of Fame trainer Barry Campbell looks set to make an impact at the night meeting in Launceston on Friday with some of his stable stars to line up in winnable races.

Barry Campbell's star sprinter Deroche failed at her last start in Melbourne, but he says the daughter of Needs Further had an issue that needed attention when she returned to the state.

"The mare wasn't right when she came home but she has been working extra well and I expect her to be back to where she was before the trip to Melbourne," Campbell said.

"Her work has been good, and she finds herself in a very winnable race over a suitable trip (1120m) and the small field also helps."

Campbell also saddles up Balearic and Fragment in the same race which makes up 60 per cent of the field.

"Fragment is a very good horse and he gets in with a light weight and Balearic is resuming and will probably need the run, but he has had two trials and he sprints well fresh."

Anybody who saw Le Cadeau's last start when third in a benchmark 76 handicap behind Dark Wanderer will be keen to have something on the gelding in the 0-68 handicap over 1120m.

Le Cadeau was beaten under a length and had no luck in the home straight, running into back ends over the concluding stages.

"Le Cadeau's closing sectionals were brilliant and the horse has trained on since that run.

"If Bulent (Muhcu) gets the run he went for last start my horse probably wins."

Campbell saddles up Assaranca in the last race, a benchmark 68 over 1620m and should start favourite.

Assaranca stepped up to 1600m last start and emerged triumphant over Raghu and Barjeel in a BM68 with apprentice Codi Jordan aboard and while she goes up in weight (2kg), the mare has improved at each outing this time in and Campbell is keen to get her out to 2100m.
