3 minute read

Last season’s top two-year-old Turk Warrior is poised to continue from where he left earlier this year if his trial in Launceston on Monday is an indicator.

In Brief

  • Turk Warrior wins trial impressively in Launceston on Tuesday.
  • First 2YO trials reveal some promising youngsters.
  • Trinder's three-year-olds look like measuring up.

Turk Warrior ended his two-year-old season undefeated from six starts and he looked good in winning his trial over 800 metres by over four lengths without being pushed out by rider Ismail Toker.

Trainer Glenn Stevenson was delighted with the trial and suggested his stable star has come back better than ever.

"I'm very pleased with the horse's fitness levels at this stage of his prep and based on that trial and how has been around the stable, he is better this time around than at any stage of last season," Stevenson said.

"He was prancing around out the back before getting into the mounting yard today but once he got onto the track he settled down and it was business as usual, and Ismail never touched him in the straight."

Stevenson confirmed Turk Warrior would return to racing in a 1100m Tasbred Bonus race in a fortnight and then progress to the $100,000 3YO Cup on 1 December.

Adam Trinder's 3YO Cup aspirants Miss Tuppence, Majestic Diamond and Outbound also won their respective trials and they too could take the same path to the 3YO Cup as Turk Warrior.

The first two-year-old trials were run without a hitch and while the three winners all looked like ready-made gallopers, the Siggy Carr-trained Sistine gave her rivals a galloping lesson, leading throughout to score by 4-1/2 lengths in a time of 44.93s without being pushed right out.

The other two 2YO trial winners were the Cameron Thompson-trained Bold Instinct that scored by a half-length from Madjack (Wordsmith-One More Red) with Froland (Zululand-Frolicked) a length away third, and the Leanne Gaffney-trained Vokes (Needs Further-Miss Choosey) was impressive in winning her trial by a half-length from Ella Exceed and Geegee Jet By.

Sistine (Needs Further-Sacred Glance) was purchased for $20,000 at the 2021 Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale and could figure in the early juvenile races later this month.
