The lesson will be held at a private indoor facility at Reed Equestrian Centre in Penfield, alongside one other retired racehorse and rider.

The training session can be tailored for all abilities – whether you are just starting out with your horse or looking to go to the next level at competitions – it will be designed to equip participants with the skills they need.

About Clive Reed

Clive began his competition career as a teenager, riding thoroughbreds at Pony Club and later specialising in show jumping. As he continued in the sport he purchased and retrained off the track thoroughbreds with most of them having a very successful competition career after racing in a range of equestrian fields and some going on to compete at World Cup level.

With more than 40 years' experience in the horse industry, Clive and his family run an established equestrian facility from Penfield offering training, coaching, agistment and livery. Today the facility hosts thoroughbreds for equestrian training, including quite a few that are still racing.

Through his equestrian industry partners and contacts, Clive has been successful at re-homing racehorses who have finished their careers including horses such as "Jim's Journey" who is now a successful Dressage and Jumping horse with a great family in Alice Springs.

Over the years Clive has provided advice and training to establishments such as the Hong Kong Jockey Club (equestrian division) for their racehorse re-training facility which is specifically designed to train and educated their retired racehorses for riding schools. This has been a successful program over many years not only providing the thoroughbreds with a new life, but providing opportunities for local and expat riders to enjoy them.

Clive is experienced at providing guidance and advice on the early training stages through to high-level competition including lunging, flatwork, pole work and jumping.

Thorough Care SA is focused on ensuring whole of life care for our equine athletes – before, during and after their racing career. We currently have a team of passionate re-trainers across the state who support the transition of thoroughbreds following their racing career.
