Trinder maps path to Cup with his three-year-old fillies

Spreyton trainer Adam Trinder left the meeting in Launceston on Wednesday night with the knowledge he has at least two genuine winning chances in the upcoming $100,000 3YO Cup in a fortnight.

Adam Trinder 's lightly raced three-year-old filly Majestic Diamond kept her unbeaten record intact when she led throughout to win a class one handicap over 1200m and later in the night his impeccably bred filly Miss Tuppence grabbed stablemate Outbound in the last stride to win a 3YO Tasbred Bonus race over 1100m.

Majestic Diamond was sent out at each-way odds ($6), but it was the strongest class one run on the Launceston circuit this season with several horses heavily backed to win the event.

The daughter of Trust in a Gust-Moondancing cost $30,000 at the 2020 Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale and Trinder has allowed her time to mature before setting her for a decent campaign.

Miss Tuppence ($2.70) took what seemed an eternity to run down stablemate Outbound in the Scottsdale Prk 3YO Hcp, but delivered the goods with the winner earning her place in next month's 3YO Cup.

Both winning fillies are owned by Wayne Roser who was delighted with both wins, especially that of Miss Tuppence.

"I thought Miss Tuppence was very impressive – she hit the line well and it was a fantastic ride from Troy (Baker)," Roser said.

"She can get a bit up on her toes from time to time which is why we like to try and ride her a bit quieter back in the field."

Baker was excited about the filly's prospects going forward.

"Before the race they told me this filly had an explosive turn of foot and that if I could get her to settle, she would probably run over the top of them and they were spot-on," Baker said.

Miss Tuppence settled third behind stablemate Outbound (Erica Byrne Burke) that set a solid clip in front while Coeur De Lyon raced fiercely early before settling second.

Outbound kicked clear at the top of the straight and was being hailed the winner but under strong riding from Baker, Miss Tuppence eventually wore the leader down to grab victory right on the line.

There is no doubt Outbound will be improved by the outing and will strip a lot fitter in the 3YO Cup if Trinder chooses that path with the Outreach gelding.
