WARWICK FARM December 2

Inside Grass; Soft 6

15 Heats – 4 x 1200m (2 Open; 2 Maiden); 5 x 815m (3 Open; 2 2YO); 6 x 812m (6 Maiden)

A standard session with little to get excited about.

DE GRAWIN (Joseph Pride): Noted speedster provided the highlight, showing all her natural pace to lead her 815m heat by a big margin. Kept running to score clearly in the fastest trial of the morning (47.07; 33.05).  She may not get further than 1000m but she'll be hard to catch in a short course sprint first-up.

LADY BANFF (Matthew Dunn): She may not have lived up to her early promise but her strong win her 815m heat (47.61; 33.22) inmdicates she is back on track to do a lot better in her coming campaign. Sat three wide outside the speed but always travelled best and clearly went to the line better than the front running FROSTY ROCKS in the last 50 metres.

Choisir filly CHOLANTE, trained by Clarry Conners, was a smart winner of the 2YO heat for fillies over 815m (48.63; 34.20), showing good natural speed to run out a clear three lengths winner in better time than the colts heat winner GLINT OF SILVER (48.63; 34.95; 34.80). PEACE OFFICER, also trained by Conners, took the eye with his closing third in the colts heat.

The maiden heats lacked star quality. The unraced Capitalist 3YO gelding GYPSY KING (Richard Litt) recorded the fastest time in the six 812m heats (47.43; 33.50) but hard to know what to make of it as it was a sharp improvement on his previous four trials.

ELZAMEE, an unraced 3YO by Deep Impact in the Maher/Eustace stable, worked well in his maiden heat over 1200m. This was his third trial and his progress should be watched with interest.

CANTERBURY November 30

Course Proper; Soft 7

22 Heats – 3 x 1100m (3 Open); 19 x 900m (6 Open; 7 2YO; 6 Maiden)

A big set of 22 heats catered for all classes. This is the best course in Sydney for trials but unfortunately is not exploited in this capacity to its optimum due to race meeting schedules and its use as a quarantine centre for overseas horses.

SILENT IMPACT (Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott): He won two of his first three starts and you can expect him to build on that record over the summer. Did it well within himself in his first trial since September to control his 900m heat from the front and extend smoothly when given a squeeze by Tim Clark to win by over two lengths in sharp time for the session (56.57; 35.54).

STROMBOLI (Hawkes Racing): This unraced Exceed And Excel colt is ready for the races after four trials since June. This was his second trial win and his talent was obvious as he had plenty in reserve winning his 900m heat in 56.81 (35.87), excellent time as this was the last trial of the day on a soft 7 surface obviously affected by the earlier traffic. Top stable should have him well placed to start his career.

The fastest 900m heat of the morning was won by the Greg Hickman-trained BRITAIN (56.21; 36.10) in a trial where the efforts of the Chris Waller stablemates CENTIMENTAL and LOVEPLANET took the eye.

There were seven 2YO heats over 900m and there were some notable times recorded by the youngsters compared to Britain's win an open heat. HELL I AM, a Hellbent colt form the John O'Shea yard, absorbed pressure from another runner and responded to riding to draw away from a strong win in the fastest juvenile heat (56.29; 35.71).

Other quick heat wins among the 2YOs were recorded by the Waterhouse/Bott pair CELESTIAL SPIRIT (56.32; 36.07) and UNCORKED (56.70; 36.37), coming off her race debut when second in the Max Lees Classic at Newcastle.

The stable would also have been pleased by the strong second of PANTONARIO in the heat won by CELESTIAL SPIRIT.

I Am Invincible colt GREAT BARRIER REEF, a $1.4 million yearling, worked to the line strongly for a strong win in his heat but didn't put the time on the clock (58.51; 36.85). Suspect he will be open to a plenty of natural improvement.

NOTED TRIALS

XX Silent Impact; Stromboli

X Bottega; Celestial Spirit; Centimental; Conspiracist; Great Barrier Reef; Hell I Am; Herman Hesse; Jawaani; Loveplanet; Pantonario; Tiny; Snapdancer; Swiss Exile; Tattooist; Time To Leave; Uncorked.
