Take the Sit dazzles in Vamos Stakes

3 minute read

Hall of fame trainer Bill Ryan could not attend the meeting in Launceston on Wednesday due to his chronic lung condition, but it didn’t stop his courageous mare Take the Sit from scoring an emphatic win in the Group 3 $150,000 Vamos Stakes over 1400m.

In Brief

  • Talented mare blitzes rivals in Group 3 Vamos.
  • Ryan misses event because of Covid.
  • McCoull emotional after win.

With Covid 19 still prevailing in the state, Ryan has decided not to attend race meetings until it is safer to do so.

Take The Sit was set for the race by the master trainer and with Brendon McCoull aboard the stage was set for a fairytale ending and neither horse nor rider let the wily trainer down.

McCoull made the most of an inside barrier to settle just behind the leader Jaja Chaboogie that crossed from a wide gate and when they entered the home straight McCoull eased his mare off the rails to challenge.

Interstate duoYes Baby Yes and Estoril Park, both from the Leon and Troy Corstens stable in Melbourne, launched their challenges but they were left in Ryan's mares wake as she strolled to an effortless win over the interstate mares.

"It's so good to ride this winner for Bill because he is struggling with his condition and Covid is denying him his love and that is coming to the races," McCoull said.

"I've ridden a lot of winners for the stable, but this is a special one."

Take the Sit went around a $13 chance while Yes Baby Yes ($8.50) and Estoril Park ($9) were well supported.

The favourite Ayahuasca ($3.10) from the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr yard in Melbourne, loomed to figure at the top of the straight but faded on her run 200m out.
