Team Ryan ready to break the ice

3 minute read

Bill Ryan and his daughter Monica Ryan have recently formed a training partnership and in Launceston on Wednesday night they are hoping to notch their first winner together with their talented mare Take the Sit.

Take The Sit stormed home to take out the Group 3 Vamos Stakes over 1400m on Launceston Cup Day and the only disappointing aspect of the win for Bill was that the joint-partnership licence could not be ratified before that race because of a delay in the paperwork process.

But better late than never and Monica is hoping the mare can do the job in the $30,000 Ladbrokes Open Handicap over 1200m.

"We've had a few runners but no luck so far, but we are fairly confident Take the Sit can give us our first partnership win," Monica Ryan said.

"The mare has done really well since her Vamos win and Dad is confident dropping back slightly in distance won't be a problem because we've freshened her up for this run."

Take the Sit has drawn ideally in gate two and in-form apprentice Chelsea Baker is aboard.

"Chelsea deserves the ride because she has helped us out a lot these past few months, since we lost our regular trackwork rider and she gets on well with the mare.

"With a four kilogram claim she gets in well at the weights, but it is a good field with Galenus likely to be the hardest for our mare to beat."

Team Ryan will also saddle up first starter Swooping Eagle in the opening event, the CUB 3YO Maiden over 1100m.

"Swooping Eagle is still learning what it's all about and this will be a good learning experience for her.

"She has good ability and has had five trials, so we are interested to see what she can show us at her first race start."
