Oxford Vision to go one better at Newcastle (Tuesday)

3 minute read

Wyong 3yo Oxford Vision, a close second on debut at Gosford on March 12, is set to atone when he contests The Prince Of Merewether Maiden Handicap (1150m) at the Newcastle Jockey Club’s Beaumont Track race meeting on Tuesday.

Kim Waugh trains the gelding which drifted back to the tail of the field at Gosford before unleashing in the straight. He eventually went down by less than half a length.

Oxford Vision has drawn wide, however, with the rail out six metres from the 800m to the 400m there will only be 11 starters.

The longer straight on the Beaumont Track compared to Gosford is a positive. Andrew Gibbons who rode Oxford Vision has the mount on Tuesday.

Recent barrier trials indicate the Arrowfield-owned and Gai Waterhouse- Adrian Bott trained filly Chimes, is ready to win first-up when she contests the Hellbent @ Yarraman Park Class 1 Handicap (1150m).

The now 3yo debuted at Newcastle in a 2yo Maiden in March 2021 and she won easily.

Her two other starts were in Victoria where she was beaten two lengths in a Moonee Valley 2yo in July and she was four lengths from the winner in the Group 3 Quezette at Caulfield.

She won a recent Randwick trial and was close-up in her latest trial at the same venue.

The Warwick Farm-trained Timperley has placed in all three starts this preparation at Bathurst, Nowra and on the Beaumont Track.

He finished off nicely in his first run for six weeks at Muswellbrook on March 11.

His run on this track on January 31 was an eye catcher when he came from second last to go down by 1.3 lengths. He will contest the Avid PM Benchmark 58 Handicap (1150m).

Kris Lees's promising 4yo Five Crowns resumes in the Australian Bloodstock Benchmark 66 Handicap (1350m).

In his first preparation the gelding had three starts for two wins and a second. He was an easy winner on this track in October and he led all the way to win a recent Wyong trial.
