Stewart swears colt is top shelf

3 minute read

Trainer Russell Stewart has declared Swear To God a better horse than stablemate Street Parade, ahead of his debut in tomorrow’s Amelia Park Plate (1000m) at Ascot.

The colt enters tomorrow's event off the back three trials, the last of them a stylish 1000m trial win at Belmont earlier this month.

Speaking on TABradio this morning, Russell Stewart made the bold call Swear To God is a better horse than his Perth Stakes runner-up Street Parade and would show that tomorrow.

"I think he's a bit of a gun this horse," he said.

"I expect him to be coming up trumps."

Shaun Mcgruddy takes the ride on Swear To God from barrier three tomorrow and is a $3.40 TABtouch favourite ahead of All Show ($5), Pot Shot and Nunes ($5.50).

Stewart said he would wait until Monday before deciding on a possible Karrakatta Plate (1200m) on April 2.

Chantorque, pictured above, could give Stewart a training double later in the day, when she lines up in the Crown Perth Handicap (1200m).

The mare produced an encouraging first-up run at Ascot on March 12 when third behind Acromantula.

Stewart said he wasn't sure how the race would unfold for the four-year-old from barrier seven.

"I haven't worked this race out yet," he said.

"I don't know where I'm going to land.

"The tempo of the race is going to decide where I'm going to be in the run.

"If she's following the right horse and gets into the race at the right time, she's going to be party hats on and steaming home."

Burgess Queen Stakes winner Buzzoom makes her return in the $70,000 event and is a $2.60 TABtouch favourite ahead of Panzdown ($3.30) and Chantorque ($5).

Both Buzzoom and Chantorque are expected to head to the Marjorie Charleson Classic (1200m) on Good Friday.

Meanwhile, Stewart said Street Parade was primed for the Karrakatta Plate.

"He's just been out on the walker out on the farm," he said.

"He's been having a nice working holiday.

"He will be freshened-up and ready to go for next week I hope."

Tomorrow's Ascot meeting gets underway at 12.22pm.
