Filly glows for Blacker

3 minute read

Longford trainer John Blacker has opted to change plans for his promising two-year-old Unique Glow after she scored an emphatic win in a 2YO handicap over 1200m in Hobart on Sunday.

Unique Glow ($2.45 fav) was having her third start when she outgunned her rivals and justified the faith punters put into the daughter of Alpine Eagle.

John Blacker had planned to give the filly a short break and freshen her up for the $50,000 Sires Produce Stakes but with that race six weeks away, he has decided to aim her at a $50,000 Tasbred Handicap over 1200m in Launceston on Good Friday.

"With the Sires Produce so far away I will back the filly up in the 2YO race in Launceston on Good Friday and that will give her three and a bit weeks into the Sires," Blacker said.

"She is by Alpine Eagle so she's quite tough and takes a bit of racing and the way she won today gives us a bit of confidence going forward because she is only going on improve on that run.

"She has shown us above average ability from the start and like most of the Alpine Eagles she has taken time to come to hand."

Jockey Siggy Carr fired the filly from the gates to lead and after had the next elect Decisive Choice on her outside until well into the straight.

When Decisive Choice made a last-ditch effort to haul in Unique Glow, the filly found another length and when the wayward Share The Gold ($3) issued his challenge Blacker's filly was up to the task and went on to defeat that gelding by 1-1/2 lengths.
