Strathalbyn trainer John Macmillan will be on light duties at Balaklava on Wednesday after being on the wrong side of a horse’s nervous reaction on Monday morning.

One of Macmillan's youngsters lashed out collecting him which resulted in a broken rib and abdomen bruising.

"I'm not in too much pain,'' Macmillan said.

"It's very tender, but thankfully the doctors gave me some pain relief and I feel pretty good at the moment.

"He not a malicious horse, he got a little fright, jumped forward and then lashed out which got me,'' he said.

Macmillan said the sorest part was underneath the hoof mark on the right side of his rib cage (image below).

"After it happened, I thought I'll just go for a lay down,'' Macmillan said.

"But thankfully my wife convinced me to go to hospital and get it checked out'' he said.

The injury comes after his stable has enjoyed a good fortnight with a double on the home track at Strathalbyn on March 23 before Aiguilette returned to winning form at Morphettville on the weekend.

"It was very good to have him back in winning form, Barend (Vorster) rode him a treat,'' Macmillan said.

And the stable has two runners heading to Balaklava mid-week, a pair of maidens both drawn well in their respective races.

"Manage The Cycle ran really well last time at Murray Bridge, from the wide barrier he got back further than we wanted, I expect he can run well on Wednesday,'' Macmillan said.

"Blaze Of Colour was disappointing in her first prep, she was very green. We are hoping to get her to relax and get her out in distance going forward,'' he said.
