In Brief

  • Lightly raced four-year-old to chase distance events interstate.
  • Gigolo always showed staying potential.
  • Win gives Brunton a double to share premiership lead.

Travelling Gigolo showed staying potential last preparation winning over 2100 metres in Hobart before being sent for a spell.

On Sunday, the gelded son of Globetrotter settled midfield in an honestly run race before scooting home along the rails in the home straight to score by almost a length from Ravage with the winner's stablemate Lucky Lil almost two lengths astern.

"There isn't much about for him here in his grade so we might have to head across the water for a run or two," Brunton said.

"He just wants to stay, and he won today because he was the strongest in the race."

Travelling Gigolo was one of two winners for Brunton with his six-year-old Vallabar holding on for a narrow win over Amaword and Romary in a benchmark 76 handicap over 1390m.

Vallabar was ridden by apprentice Erica Byrne Burke who settled the gelding in fourth spot in the field of five and had him within striking distance of the leader, Romary, turning for home.

Under strong riding the six-year-old knuckled down to his task over the final 200m to grab victory in the shadows of the post.
