Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott have unearthed a Brisbane winter carnival hopeful at Canterbury with Resonator outsprinting his rivals to book his passage north.

Gelded after finishing out of the placings in the Breeders' Plate last spring, Resonator dictated terms for Tim Clark and was a class above his rivals to win Wednesday's 1200m race by almost three lengths.

Bott believes the son of Brazen Beau will be a better horse over further and plans to give him a chance to show his wares in stakes grade during the upcoming carnival in Queensland.

"There is a lot of upside to this horse. He is a really nice horse in the making," Bott said.

"We may have rushed him a little bit to the Breeders' Plate but (managing owner) Henry (Field) has been great in giving us the time to get him here today.

"He's going to be lovely horse for the winter carnival. If we can get him over a bit further, I think we can see him in a couple of stakes races in Queensland."

Clark also gave the two-year-old his endorsement and said he did a great job to win first-up in the heavy conditions.

Wet tracks have been par for the course in Sydney this autumn and Clark says Resonator may be a beneficiary as he will head to Queensland on relatively fresh legs.

"He's missed most of these wet tracks through the autumn and the hard racing," Clark said.

"There is going to be some tired horses and he is fresh on the scene and has come back in good order so they may be able to get away with something in Brisbane."

Resonator gave Tulloch Lodge and Clark an early double after they took out the other two-year-old race on the midweek program with filly Sweet Baby Boom

She is likely to be spelled before returning for a spring campaign and Clark marked her as a horse of the future.

"She got into a good rhythm, travelled well and I think you'll see a really nice filly next time in on better ground," Clark said.
