JD Hayes described Irish import Zumoradda "well bought, not sold" after the four-year-old mare scored her maiden win for the Lindsay Park stable at her first run in Australia.

Bought for 50,000 Guineas (approximately AU$91,000) at the Tattersalls August Sale in 2021, by a syndicate of Australian connections, Zumoradda had eight starts in Ireland for five placings before her winning effort at Bendigo in the bet365 Protest Promise Maiden over 1300 metres.

"It was a very professional effort, I thought," Hayes said post-race.

"I loved the way she was positive from the barrier, and she was aided with a beautiful ride rated out front."

With Blaike Mcdougall aboard, Zumoradda ($2.45 favourite) led on settling and forced the small field of five to slow before the home turn in the Heavy 10 rated conditions.

On straightening, McDougall asked for a second effort to which the mare responded before holding off a late challenge from Shootoose ($5) to score by a neck margin.

With a lack of pace in the race on paper, 'plan A' was to take up the running, as described by McDougall who – to that point - in nine rides since Monday has delivered two winners together with five minor placings.

"She was there to be beaten so it was nice to see her kick hard on her Australian debut," Hayes said.

With no firm plans ahead for the mare, Hayes noted that having had a "good blow" after this run, that there was more to come from her.

"She's a horse that looks like she was very well bought, not sold."

The stable notched a running double when New Zealand import Solstice ($7.50), by Tavistock, scored on a narrow win on its Australian debut in The Big Screen Company 3YO Maiden over 1100 metres.
