McEvoy's chasing bonuses on Oaks Day

3 minute read

Exciting three-year-old Defining will chase a third win in succession and an additional bonus when she tackles Saturday’s $107,250 Nitschke Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville.

The Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained filly comes of a brilliant Shillabeer Plate win at Oakbank on Easter Saturday when the $225,000 yearling purchase blitzed her rivals by 5.5 lengths.

If she can win the Nitschke, she'll bank another $59,795 in prizemoney along with a $10,000 bonus after winning the Adelaide Hills feature.

"She's really come up this preparation, we've always had a lot of time for her,'' Calvin McEvoy said on RSN.

"Since coming to SA she's hit her form, I like her a lot,'' he said.

Likewise stablemate Zoist came from well back to run over the top of rivals in The Vintage at Oakbank and is also up for a $10,000 bonus if he can win the $107,250 City of Adelaide Handicap over 1400m.

Zoist is also chasing three wins on end after winning the Magic Millions three-year-old feature at Murray Bridge prior, and boasts two wins from as many starts over the 1400m trip on the Parks at Morphettville.

"Zoist is going extremely well,'' McEvoy said.

The stable has added blinkers to smart filly Mac 'N' Cheese who has drawn awkwardly in barrier 17 after the scratching of El Patroness in the $502,250 Australasian Oaks.

"It's not ideal, she's a filly who always jumps just average,'' McEvoy said.

"We'll be coming out, trying to switch her off, I'm not too concerned as there is nothing we can do about it,'' he said.
