Trainer Peter Green is hoping his stable can pick up where they left off at Kembla Grange when the lightly-raced Star Mission lines up in Saturday's Canterbury League Club Maiden Plate (1400m).
Peter Green left the Illawarra Turf Club a happy man on Tuesday when his in-form galloper Butch 'N' Bugs dominated the last race on the card to make it back-to-back wins.
Star Mission can keep the ball rolling in Saturday's second event where the three-year-old filly will step out over 1400m for the first time.
The daughter of Star Turn is returning to Kembla after finishing runner up to the Anthony Mountney-trained Herb at the same track last start on April 23.
"It was only her second start so I was happy the way she went," Green said.
"The winner went past her and I am unsure if he eased up close to the line that made our run look better but I was happy with it.
"She has always indicated she needs more ground and has taken some time to develop.
"Her problem is she is not a great doer but she has worked well at home recently and is doing everything right so I think she can run a good race on Saturday."
Star Mission will only take on a small field of just six rivals at her third start and looks to be one of the main chances in the seven furlong test.
She has drawn well in barrier four with jockey Louise Day, who rode Butch 'N' Bugs to victory on Tuesday, in the saddle again for Green.
"It looks to be an even race and definitely a winnable race I would say," Green said.
"Barrier four is a nice barrier for her and Lousie (Day) is riding well at the moment.
"Hopefully we can keep that strike rate up."
Green, who trains out of Hawkesbury with 11 horses currently in work, is hopeful Butch 'N' Bugs can continue on his upward spiral following his Kembla victory during the week.
The son of Sidestep was a winner at Nowra two starts back before saluting at Kembla and could be set for a Midway tilt later this month if all goes to plan.
"He is flying that horse," Green said.
"I am really happy with how he is going and thought he would be hard to beat the other day.
"He had worked well the week before and I was confident if he went as good as he did at Nowra, he'd go close."
Saturday's seven-race card kicks off at 12.45pm with the track rated a heavy (10) on Friday.
