Need a Flutter tunes up for next assignment

3 minute read

The Terry Evans-trained filly Need a Flutter showed she has held onto her recent winning form by taking out a 1400-metre trial in style in Hobart on Tuesday.

Need A Flutter won a class one handicap over 1400m in Hobart earlier this month and Terry Evans was keen to have her get another trial under her belt before stepping out in a benchmark race at the next Hobart meeting on 5 June.

"She needed the trial because she is such a good doer in the stable," Evans said.

"There's a benchmark 68 over 1400m that looks ideal for her in a fortnight, so that's most likely where she will have her next start."

Need a Flutter (Needs Further-Roundhouse Miss) has had 13 starts for two wins, but now that she has settled into racing, Evans is confident there are more wins in store.

Lightly raced three-year-old filly Queenborough Flyer also won a trial impressively on Tuesday in what was her first outing since being diagnosed with a fractured vertebrae soon after winning at her only race start.

The Siggy Carr-trained filly won on debut but after finishing second to Alpine Wolf in a Longford trial in October last year she suffered a fractured vertebrae (C1-C2) which required a lengthy break from racing.

Queenborough Flyer (Alpine Eagle-Silandro) was being prepared for many of the feature three-year-old events during the Summer Carnival when she went amiss.

Siggy Carr's racing manager Tania Coward said she was thrilled with the filly's trial and provided she pulled up well she would be back for another trial in a fortnight.

"She will come back for another trial and then Siggy will assess where she is at and go from there, but the important thing is she gets through the two trials without any issues," Coward said.

Carr wasn't at the trials as she was diagnosed with Covid last week, and her life partner and fellow jockey Troy Baker, has also fallen victim to the same virus.
