Wesley Vale trainer Glenn Stevenson is hoping his stable newcomer Obvious Step can win at her first start in the state in Devonport on Sunday

 Obvious Step comes out of the David Payne stable in Sydney for whom the mare notched three wins, the latest at Warwick Farm in a benchmark 64 over 1600m in late December last year.

"This mare should be good enough to handle this field on Sunday if she can live up to her good form in Sydney and provided she races well on the synthetic track," Stevenson said.

"She has been with me long enough to get a guide as to where she fits and this benchmark 62 on Sunday looks ideal."

Stevenson also saddles up his promising two-year-old Emphatic Bel in the Ladbrokes Mates Mode 2YO Maiden over 1150m.

Emphatic Bel is owned by the same ownership group that races Obvious Step (and Boom Dot Com main picture) and Stevenson says the filly has done enough to warrant good support on Sunday.

"This fully had only one start for a very encouraging second to Vokes back in early March and her trial win last week was really impressive."

Stevenson will saddle up many genuine winning chances on Sunday as he attempts to help ensure his stable apprentice Codi Jordan takes out the state jockeys' premiership in only her second season.

The last female apprentice to achieve the feat was Bev Buckingham in 1981-82 as a 17-year-old apprentice, so if Jordan can emerge triumphant hers and Buckingham's wins will be 40 years apart.
