The star

Mehmet Ulucinar

Mehmet had a double in the first five races with a pair of nice rides aboard the resuming Power Magnum and Tiltherewarsyou who notched a hat-trick of wins with victory in the first leg of the quaddie. It's a been a good start to the new season for Mehmet who is striking at 19% from 21 rides to date.

Sectional standout

Alpine Assault – R3 Maiden (1150m)

Unfortunately, a power outage prevented any Stridemaster sectional data being captured from Sunday's program however I'm quite confident the clock will back up the visuals on Alpine Assault who rattled home to deliver John Blacker a stable quinella in the third race of the day.

The 4YO gelding was specked at a price ($101 into $31) and delivered his first career placing at start 12 by storming home from near the rear of the field. Only once has he raced over further than 1200m and he looks every bit of a horse that will appreciate 1400m or a mile to be knocking over his maiden.

Making a bold statement

Bello Beau was the standout 2YO of last season by the length of the Elwick straight but the picture behind him is far less clear. Stablemate Jaguar Stone has wraps on her. Geegee Jet By, Vokes and Happy Clan all showed a bit at different stages but certainly Bold Instinct can add his name to the list of horses we've seen going into their 3YO season.

Sunday's win was nothing more than a sit and steer for returning apprentice Chloe Wells who was never better than three-wide without cover but still had plenty in hand to beat a Class 1 field that admittedly lacked depth, hence the $1.50 starting price.

Bold Instinct is now a perfect 2/2 since joining Team Wells and I'm sure connections are feeling a bit more comfortable about the $150,000 they paid to secure him at the 2021 Tassie Magic Millions sales.
