The Star

Troy Baker

The popular hoop more than doubled his season win tally with a treble on Sunday's card featuring wins aboard Needs RememberingJaguar Stone and Sparkling One.

Baker's double for Adam Trinder continued a good association with the stable and one that may well continue given Brendon Mccoull remains injured (although his return isn't far away) and stable apprentice Erica Byrne Burke faces a layoff with her own injury problems.

Baker has four wins from 15 starters this season for Trinder and is one from 25 for all other trainers. Baker's six wins last season for Trinder were more than he had for any other individual trainer.

Sectional standout

Jaguar Stone R6 Class 3 (1150m)

This was a very impressive return from the 3YO filly who was taking on the older horses for the first time. She's shown in her short career that she can hit a little flat spot mid-race before picking up the bit in the run to the line and while that was on display again here, what a turn of foot she showed when she let down.

Jaguar Stone's 35.2s last 600m was two lengths quicker than any other horse recorded on the Stridemaster sectional data and her final 400m and 200m sectionals were bettered by only Le Cadeau in the final race.

Colin McNiff outlined that Jaguar Stone's main targets will come late in the Ladbrokes Tasmanian Summer of Racing but it does create more excitement for the return of stablemate Bello Beau given she was no match for him last season.
