Trainer Peter Moody is banking on a dry track bringing out an improved showing from Brereton.

Peter Moody has assembled a strong arsenal of quality three-year-olds and is looking to Brereton landing a stakes race win at Flemington. 

Already a winner down the Flemington straight, Brereton runs in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) on Saturday. 

Brereton won the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) on Melbourne Cup Day last year at his first appearance on the Flemington straight. 

The one other time the son of Zoustar was seen down the straight was when finishing a first-up eighth behind Buenos Noches in the Listed Poseidon Stakes (1100m) on September 10. 

Buenos Noches is an opponent again on Saturday and Moody is hopeful of turning the tables despite the relatively poor showing last time out. 

But Moody said the colt could be excused on the Soft 7 rated track. 

"He wasn't suited on the soft track that day," Moody said. 

"But unfortunately, he's drawn in gate one on Saturday which has been a bit of a graveyard down the straight lately. 

"However, the colt is in good order, so I just hope he gets his chance from that draw because he's ready to run well." 

Music to Moody's ears was the Flemington track had already been upgraded from a Soft 5 at acceptance time on Wednesday to a Good 4 on Friday. 

And with fine weather forecast on Saturday there is the chance of a further upgrade. 

Brereton is one of two Victorian Alliance colts set to run in the Danehill with Doull being saddled by Anthony and Sam Freedman. 

A debut winner at Flemington in May, Doull finished fifth in the Poseidon Stakes and is a $6 chance in betting with TAB while Brereton is an outsider at $61. 

The unbeaten Giga Kick, aiming to extend the winning streak to four, is the $1.85 favourite.
