The Group 1 Toorak at Caulfield holds a special place in the heat of Hall Of Fame trainer Leon Macdonald.

Former star galloper Umrum raced on Toorak Day on no short of seven occasions during his brilliant career that netted 14 wins and 20 placings from his 81 starts banking almost $1.5m in prizemoney.

After running down the track in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas in his three-year-old season, Umrum returned to run third in the Toorak in 1998 before winning the Group 1 feature in 1999 and 2000.

He ran down the track at his fourth attempt, before finishing runner-up in 2002 and third again in 2003, an amazing record.

Macdonald returns on Saturday with another journeyman in Dalasan.

After running fifth behind Super Seth in the 2019 Caulfield Guineas, Dalasan has raced at Group 1 level at 19 of his 31 starts since.

Despite being winless at the highest level he's finished in the first five on 10 occasions and comes off another eye-catching run behind Callsign Mav in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.
