Berkeley Square can complete an amazing story of survival by winning the $3m Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on Saturday.

Raced by former South Australian Jockey Club Chairman David Peacock, Berkeley Square had health issues as a youngster which could have gone either way.

"As a foal, he was very sick,'' trainer Dan O'Sullivan said on RadioTAB.

"To the point they didn't think he would be a racehorse, at some stage they didn't think he would live.

"It's been a remarkable comeback, to be now one of the main chances in a Group 1.

"It would have been easy for David to cut his losses and move him on but plenty of love and tender care and here we are today,'' he said.

Berkeley Square has a solid pedigree.

Her mother Bahamas is a daughter of former quality mare St Trinians and managed just the one win during her short racing career which included a placing in the Group 1 Oaks in Adelaide behind superstar filly Delicacy.

And she has more than proven herself as quality broodmare producing Senor Taba who run second in the Queensland Derby before going to Hong Kong where he's been successful under the care of Casper Fownes.

Berkeley Square comes off an emphatic win in the Exford Plate over 1400m when he produced a brilliant finishing burst to run past rivals late.

And O'Sullivan has opted to keep plenty in the tank knowing the best is still to come.

"Knowing the horse, he does exactly what you ask him,'' O'Sullivan said.

"Everything he's been doing over the short course has been a bonus,'' he said.
