Well-bred mare Queenborough Flyer looks set to make an impact on the upcoming Tasmanian summer carnival following her impressive win in the Mountain Seas Lodge Flinders Island Class One Handicap over 1200 metres in Launceston on Friday night.

The Siggy Carr-trained four-year-old was having only her fourth start but has an outstanding record of two wins and a second.

After she won on debut a year ago the mare was diagnosed with a small bone fracture in her neck and the road to recovery was drawn out and required a lot of patience from her owners.

But at this latest outing, she showed why Carr has such a big opinion of the daughter of Alpine Eagle-Silandro.

Queenborough Flyer ($1.90) settled fourth and always travelled comfortably and when Carr eased her three-wide to challenge at the top of the home straight, she quickly hauled in the leaders and cruised to an effortless win, scoring by over two lengths from Punk Princess ($12) and Bynance ($13).

"We have always known this mare has above-average ability and tonight she even surprised me the way she went about winning," Carr said.

"To do what she did and be only about 85 per cent right is exciting because I know how much improvement there is before she is at her top."

The trainer-rider said the mare would keep progressing through the grades, but she also is hoping Queenborough Flyer can find her way into one of the two feature weight-for-age fillies and mares' races during the carnival, primarily the $150,000 Group 3 Bow Mistress in early February.

"It would be nice to think she could get to a Bow Mistress or a Vamos Stakes but for now we will just concentrate on winning her next graded race."
