White to deliver the goods on Wednesday night

3 minute read

Trainer Gary White will take a small team to the Launceston meeting on Wednesday night but is full of confidence his horses will perform well. He is expecting his 4YO Chinchero, who blitzed a field by almost four lengths there three weeks ago to repeat the dose.

In Brief

  • Chinchero dominant last time.
  • Trainer confident in how the stable is performing.
  • Top apprentice returns from injury.

"As you know horses can improve or go backwards overnight and we will just see how he develops.

"(Jockey) Bulent (Muhcu) believes he's improved mentally more than physically since his last run. He's a very lazy track worker but since he's raced, he's got up on the bridle and surprised us all and he's absolutely thriving," White said.

"He's shown that he's come back better than ever, and I'll be disappointed if he doesn't replicate what he did up there last time."

Chinchero will line up in the third event of the night, a 1600m class 1, he's drawn barrier 1 and should be able to box seat just off the speed.

White will also saddle up Herman's Bells in a 0-62 over 1400m. Share The Gold returns in an 1100m 0-62, Johnny Chutzpah is first-up in a BM68 over 1200m and Black Eaglet resumes in a 1200m Class 1.

"They are all going well, and I'd be hopeful they would all run well and be around the placings."

Next week White will head north again with Just A Tribute in the back of the float, aiming for a Class 3 win. Just A Tribute resumed in Hobart last week, scorching to a 6.5 length win.

"Some of my staff told me this fellow could develop into a Thomas Lyons type horse even though at that stage he was still a Class 1 galloper."

EBB back in the saddle

Apprentice jockey Erica Byrne Burke will make her return at the Launceston meeting after being sidelined for almost two months with a broken foot after a fall at the Devonport trials in early September.

Byrne Burke will ease back into race riding accepting just two mounts. She will ride Jeremiah for leading trainer Scott Brunton in the BM68 over 1400m and Michbar for her boss Adam Trinder in the following race, a BM68 over 1200m.

Last season Byrne Burke finished third on the jockeys' premiership with 46 winners. After a delayed start due to holidays and injury, so far this season she has just two winners but with her 1.5kg claim she is sure to be in demand from the state's leading stables throughout the rest of the season.

The best bets on the card look to be Ding Ding in the first race of the night and Chinchero in race three.
