The 100th running of the Strathalbyn Cup will launch a campaign geared towards the Adelaide Cup for talented stayer Sebonna.

Mount Gambier and Murray Bridge trainer Peter Hardacre has the two-mile Group 2 feature in his sights with Sebonna who will have to lug a 60kg top weight from barrier 14 in Sunday's $107,250 feature at Strathalbyn.

Sebonna won two of three starts in November, running second behind talented mare The Map in the Skybeau Series Final in between, which prompted Hardacre to put the horse away with the Adelaide Cup in mind.

"We'd love to head towards the Adelaide Cup, that's been the plan,'' Hardacre said.

"We gave him four weeks off with this race in mind.

"He's come back just as well, it was always a risk (spelling when he did) but he was getting up there in the ratings and there wasn't a lot of options,'' he said.

Despite the weight and wide draw Haracre is confident Seboona will be strong late.

"He's obviously got plenty of weight and drawn off the track, but he was always going back,'' Hardacre said.

"He trialled up nicely at Strathalbyn the other day and handled the nicely so hopefully he can run well,'' he said.

Hardacre also has Thrill Kill in the feature who will be ridden by Eran Boyd.

"It's a step up in grade for him and his first time to 2000m,'' Hardacre said.

"There isn't a lot of options for him, he goes in fit and we'll ride him to get the trip,'' he said.

Alana Livesey has picked up the ride on last-start Gawler winner Bundle Of Fun from the Patrick Payne stable while Ellis Wong will ride another impressive last-start Gawler winner Diamonds Are.
