Beltoro is aiming for back-to-back city wins when he heads to Sandown on Saturday.
Trainer Robert Hickmott wants the predicted rain to stay away ahead of Beltoro heading to Sandown looking for back-to-back city wins.
Beltoro broke a 10-month run of outs when successful at Flemington last month and lines up again on Saturday in the Ladbroke It! Handicap (1800m).
Saturday's outing will be the first time since Beltoro was a three-year-old that he has raced beyond 1600m, and Hickmott is using it as a guide to see if he will stretch out to 2000m as an older horse.
"Being out of a Zabeel mare, you would think he would get 2000 metres, but being by Toronado, they're a bit sharper," Hickmott said.
"His body looks more like a sprinter-miler, but he's got good lungs and it's about him relaxing.
"I'm looking forward to Saturday and the only query will be the amount of rain we get.
"He's better on firmer ground, so that's what we're hoping for."
Hickmott gave Beltoro a few days in the paddock to recover from his Flemington win, but since being back in the stable the gelding's work has been strong.
"His blood profile is terrific, his work has been sharp and strong and stepping up to the 1800 metres shouldn't really worry him," Hickmott said.
"He relaxes well in his races, and he doesn't mind those outside draws.
"Barrier eight in a small field suits and whether he's one-one or a pair further back, that suits racing pattern anyway.
"Detonator Jack, Right You Are look the ones to beat and Riot And Rose is progressing nicely.
"But he's raced well at 100 grade before and he will appreciate getting down to 53 kilos also as he seems to thrive down on the lower weights.
"The race shapes up well for him."
