Goulburn trainers poised to strike early (Sunday)

3 minute read

Goulburn trainers have been carving up the TAB highway Handicaps of late (think four wins from the last seven editions and a narrow runner-up result last Saturday) and they will be looking to strike early on their home track this Sunday.

Goulburn's seven race card has a distinctly 'over the ranges' flavour early on with two country boosted races kick starting proceedings.

Scott Collings has topweight London Gal (Alysha Collett) engaged in the opener, the TAB.COM.AU Country Boosted B58 Hcp over 1000m.

Currently rated a $9 chance (TAB Fixed Odds) the usually consistent mare had plenty of excuses last start at Moruya, look for her to improve back in home surrounds.

Danny Williams has five runners accepted on the day and its eyes to the front with the anticipated return of Tablet ($2.80 TAB) in the same race.

The three-year-old filly delivered smart on pace efforts in her debut campaign before going to the paddock a winner. Jeff Penza rode her in a quality trial at Goulburn recently and takes the reins from an all options draw.

Williams also has My Blue Jeans ($41 TAB Fixed Odds) starting a fresh campaign in the race, the stable warrior lining up for his eighty third race start having collected over $230 000 in prizemoney along the way.

Race 2 is the Country Championships 17/3 Country Boosted Maiden Hcp over 1000m and two of the three local gallopers engaged are on good terms with the early TAB Fixed Odds markets.

The Tim Martin trained My Little Viking (Amy McLucas) has firmed from $19 to $6.50 in early posturing whilst the Danny Williams trained Sun Kiss (Robbie Dolan) sits at a $5 early shop.

Anthony Warren rounds out the three-way play of Goulburn gallopers in the race with Prince Papa ($15).

The son of Casino Prince having finished close up in a Kembla trial late last year.

Kurt Goldman's only runner on the day is Arts Object ($5.50) in Race 3, the Goulburn Produce F&M B58 Hcp.

The filly cracked on late at Wagga last start as runner-up and can figure from a low draw in what is an open market.

Pat Murphy and Williams will fly the Goulburn flag in a strong back half of Sunday's tablelands program.

Stormy Witness ($18 - Jeff Penza) resumes in Race 5 the Swiftwood Tiles & Bathrooms Maiden Plate over 1200m for Williams whilst Pat Murphy has Vonk on debut ($31) in a TAB Fixed Odds market strangled by the Joe Pride trained Shalatin ($2.20).

In Race 6, the Kirk's Bridge Farm Yearling Sales CG&E B58 Hcp over 1400m Williams and Penza combine again with Brazen Impact ($6 TAB Fixed Odds).

The form guide finding a few extra ticks second up thanks to a firmer track and a more suitable trip. Wayne Hudd and Hannah Williams also combine on roughie My Rock Singa ($34) in the same race.

Sunday's sees Goulburn continue its build up towards the Southern Wildcard Qualifying race day on Friday 17th March, one of the final stops on the Newhaven Park Country Championships road train to riches!

As part of the day the club will host The Precinct, a dedicated 18-35's lawn party including separate bar, live DJ, lawn games and plenty more.

Goulburn's track is currently rated a Good 4 for Sunday with Race 1 timed to go at 1.50pm.
