Payne taking it 'one run at a time' with Bundle Of Fun

Bundle Of Fun can put her hand up for an Adelaide Cup nomination by winning Saturday’s $107,250 Listed Premier’s Plate (2019m) at Morphettville.

The Patrick Payne-trained four-year-old has been impressive winning her past two starts in SA; the Bung Fritz Cup at Gawler and the Strathalbyn Cup. Patrick Payne says the mare has ticked all the right boxes in Adelaide.

"Ryan (Balfour) is really happy with her,'' Payne said.

"She got a great ride from Todd Pannell to win two starts back and then got the job done with 52.5kg on her back last time,'' he said.

Like 2022 when she won the Tasmanian Oaks, Payne said this time of the year agrees with Bundle Of Fun.

"She's got her confidence up now and obviously this is the right time of the year for her,'' Payne said.

"This race is a lot harder, but she goes there in great order.

"I would question whether she would stay the distance of the Adelaide Cup, but we will just keep taking it one run at a time heading that way,'' he said.

Compressed weights outside of topweight Tralee Rose who will carry 60kg sees Dom Tourneur secure the ride and jump from barrier five.

Payne's immediate mission will be Friday's $150,000 Listed Tasmanian Derby with Dunkel, a horse who has been earmarked at the Group 1 South Australian Derby in May.

"I think the (South Australian) Derby would be an ideal race for him,'' Payne said.

Racing continues at Hobart on Sunday with plenty of interest in the Group 3 Hobart Cup over 2400m which could also provide a form line for next month's Adelaide Cup.
