Rosehill hosts the final day of their section of the carnival with another great day of G1 action.
G1 Tancred Stakes (2400m 3yo+ WFA)
- First Running: 1963 (Maidenhead).
- Conditions: Handicap (1963-1976) then WFA (1977 – onwards).
- Multiple Winners: Octagonal (1996, 1997), Tie The Knot (1999, 2000).
- Other Notable Winners: Tails (1972), Apollo Eleven (1973), Hyperno (1978), Kingston Town (1980), Bonecrusher (1986), Beau Zam (1988), Our Poetic Prince (1989), Sydeston (1990), Might And Power (1998), Ethereal (2002), Makybe Diva (2005), Eremein (2006), Hartnell (2015), Jameka (2017), Almandin (2018), Avilius (2019), Verry Elleegant (2020), Sir Dragonet (2021), Duais (2022).
- Fillies & Mares: There have been 11 mare winners with Duais the most recent in 2022.
- 3yos: 11 x 3yo winners – most recent Fiveandahalfstar (2013) but before that it was Grand Zulu in 2004. No 3yo filly has won.
- Lead Ups: Two main races are the best form guide – it's the Ranvet Stakes or the Australian Cup. In the last 20 years, 11 times the winner has come through the Ranvet Stakes and 7 times the Australian Cup.
- Tancred Stakes/Queen Elizabeth Stakes double (9) – Tails (1972), Apollo Eleven (1973), Shivaree (1979), My Blue Denim (1981), Prince Majestic (1982), Our Poetic Prince (1989), Sydeston (1990), Might And Power (1998), Eremein (2006).
- Since the race became WFA, only Kingston Town (1980) and Tie The Knot (1999) have done the Tancred/Sydney Cup double.
- Internationally trained horses have run in the Tancred - Beau Zam defeated Highland Chieftain, Vaguely Pleasant and Le Glorieux in 1988. Our Poetic Prince beat home Top Class in 1989 while Sydeston had Mountain Kingdom and Highland Chieftain in his wake in 1990. In 2015 Hartnell had a great duel with the Japanese runner To The World.
- In 2000, Tie The Knot beat Arena and Showella in the Ranvet Stakes and then a fortnight later Tie The Knot beat Arena and Showella in the Tancred.
- Almandin became the fifth winner of the Melbourne Cup to also win the Tancred - Hyperno won it before winning at Flemington but Makybe Diva, Ethereal and Might And Power were successful afterwards. Two Melbourne Cup winners are here – Gold Trip & Vow And Declare.
- Six of the last ten winners had had classic success previous to winning their Tancred Stakes.
- Newcastle hosted the Tancred in 2022 due to massive rains in Sydney and witnessed a fantastic win by Duais.
- Ethereal was a Queensland Oaks winner and Duais joined her in winning both races in the relevant following season.
- Two Sydney Cup winners are also entered – Knights Order & Selino.

G1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m 3yo SW)
- First Running: 1979 (Impede).
- Status: G1 since 1992. (G2 before that).
- Registered Name: Storm Queen Stakes.
- Distance: 1900m at Canterbury (1979) but then 2000m at Rosehill after that. It had to be 1850m when run at Newcastle in 2022.
- Notable Winners: English Wonder (1983), Centaurea (1985), Research (1989), Slight Chance (1993), Saleous (1996), Champagne (1998), Special Harmony (2004), Serenade Rose (2006), Miss Finland (2007), Mosheen (2012), Lucia Valentina (2014), Verry Elleegant (2019).
- Lead Ups: Form has come from races like the Coolmore Classic and the Kembla Grange Classic. However the Phar Lap Stakes is also a factor.
- Vinery Stud Stakes/Australian Oaks double (8) - Sheraco (1982), Research (1989), Alcove (1994), Danendri (1997), Serenade Rose (2006), Heavenly Glow (2008), Verry Elleegant (2019), Hungry Heart (2021).
- VRC Oaks has been a reference for many years. From 1989, Research, Slight Chance, Northwood Plume, Saleous, Special Harmony, Hollow Bullet, Serenade Rose, Miss Finland, Faint Perfume, Mosheen all did the double.
- Research won the 1989 edition and then took the AJC Derby and the AJC Oaks all within the space of 11 days.
- It was a good edition in 2020 as Shout The Bar would go on to win the Empire Rose Stks in the Spring and runner up Probabeel would take the Epsom Hcp.
- 2022 was run at Newcastle and over 1850m due to the incredible rain encountered in Sydney.
- Four of the last five years the winner has come through the Phar Lap Stakes and three of them were Chris Waller fillies.
- Miss Finland won the Golden Slipper and then this race in consecutive years becoming the only horse to achieve that. Fireburn tries to emulate here.
- Prowess defeated the older horses in the Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes.

- They ran the Emancipation Stakes on the Monday at Newcastle when Rosehill was abandoned in 2022.
- In a strange twist, recent years has seen back to back winners of the race. Skyerush won 2012/2013, Catkins won 2014/2015 and Zanbagh won 2016/2017.
- Promise Of Success could maintain that back to back successes this week.
