Michael Poy has ridden more than 300 winners and is the son of Michael Clarke, a champion rider of the 80s and 90s who won many of Australia's biggest races.

Poy will ride Acromantula for co-trainers Dan and Ben Pearce in Saturday's Group 3 Roma Cup (1100m) and also has mounts at Pinjarra on Sunday.

Poy said moving to Perth on a more permanent basis holds genuine appeal and attraction, particularly if he was able to link up with a leading stable.

"Especially if I could pick up good rides and get in with a stable like the Pearces'," Poy told The Races WA.

"As long as they are happy and I could pick up the good rides with other stables and get a winner or two I would definitely be coming back and staying a bit longer.

"I will see how this weekend goes and speak to the Pearces' a bit closer and a few other trainers.

"Depending on how it goes this weekend and what everybody thinks I could be over in a week."

Poy has a close connection to WA racing; he piloted Fabergino to victory in the Listed Bob Hoysted (1000m) at Flemington two years ago.

He also combined with close friend and Karnup trainer Joran Rolfe to take out the Esperance Sprint (1200m) aboard Sweet Snitty just over 12-months ago.

Poy's father won the G1 Railway Stakes (1600m) on two occasions in Perth: riding Better Loosen Up (1989) and M'Lady's Jewel (1991).

Poy said a change of scenery from Melbourne, more opportunities and the Perth lifestyle makes it an attractive proposition to relocate.

"I do like Perth, the weather, the lifestyle," Poy said.

"I've been over two or three times and I do like it.

"It's something different and I've never left Melbourne.

"It is hard in Melbourne and if I did have to move it would be there to Perth."

Acromantula tackles the Roma Cup after winning the Rock Magic Stakes (1000m) two weeks ago.
