Walsh confident ahead of Capricornia Yearling Sales Classic

Trainer Nick Walsh is banking on the Chinny Boom form line to give him his first Capricornia Yearling Sales Classic victory at Rockhampton on Saturday.

Nick Walsh doesn't have a starter in the $150,000 2YO Classic over 1200 metres but hopes to claim the $100,000 3&4YO's feature with Just Super.

Just Super – a Leslie Tilley mount - is chasing a hat-trick of wins and Walsh is confident the gelding can maintain his unbeaten record this campaign.

Walsh faces stiff opposition, notably from rival trainer Clinton Taylor who has three starters – Montana Night, Divine Purpose and Seductive Spur.

However, Walsh has declared top weight Fire King, who is now trained at Beaudesert by Olivia Cairns, as the main threat.

Just Super has won four of his seven starts and started his current campaign with a narrow first-up win at Callaghan Park on February 10.

The win confirmed a trip to the Sunshine Coast where he dominated a Benchmark race over 1200 metres on March 5.

Just Super won at Rockhampton in last August and was well supported when second, beaten less than three lengths, by Chinny Boom in Mackay last September.

Chinny Boom subsequently won at Rockhampton in October which earned the star filly a trip to Brisbane for the Listed Mode Plate at Doomben on December 3.

A winner of five of her six starts, Chinny Boom put in a sensational performance to go under in a photo in the Mode Plate to the Steven O'Dea and Matthew Hoysted-trained, Stroll.

"The Chinny Boom form line around her is great and we ran second to her at Mackay," Walsh said.

"Annabel Neasham's filly Sunshine In Paris ran third to Chinny Boom in the Listed Mode Plate and has since gone on to win the Group 1 Surround Stakes in Sydney."

Walsh believes Just Super is the best horse in the race but has a lot of respect for Fire King.

Fire King's form in the South East Queensland region has been ordinary but on his day is more than capable of winning.

"Fire King has been around the ropes a bit and is a good tough horse and is the one we have to beat," Walsh said.

"My bloke if probably the best horse in the field and he'll be very hard to beat.

"He's my first runner in this race and hopefully he can win and if he does there's a race in Brisbane I'm looking at with him in three weeks."

Unfortunately, Just Super is not QTIS registered so will only be chasing the major share of the prize money.

"I'm not worried he's not QTIS registered as he's still a very good horse," Walsh said.
