Talented Victorian speedster In The Boat will chase redemption at Morphettville on Saturday in the $127,250 Group 3 R N Irwin Stakes (1100m).

The Lindsey Smith-trained galloper was poised to battle for favouritism in last year's Group 1 Goodwood before he succumbed to a hoof abscess just two days out from the feature.

Smith again has the Goodwood in his sights, the horse's preference for good tracks a large part of the Adelaide appeal.

"He's a better horse on top of the ground, the Wangoom here (at Warrnambool) was another option, but I think it will be too wet for him,'' Smith said.

In The Boat won last year's $500,000 Discovery at Sale in the lead-up to his aborted Adelaide raid and finished second behind Curran at Geelong over the 1100m in this year's feature earlier this month.

"A few people said he went too hard the other day,'' Smith said.

"But I think he's a horse who likes to roll.

"That will again be the case on Saturday, he'll be a part of the speed, if he leads, he leads.

"If he doesn't (lead), you know they are going quick enough,'' he said.

In The Boat has been the horse to firm since markets opened shortening from $6 into $4 with tab.com.au to challenge Godolphin's Kallos ($3.50 fav) for favouritism.

Kallos comes off successive wins down the Flemington straight and will again be ridden by Ben Melham from a wide barrier.

The Mark Kavanagh -trained Seradess sits on the third line of betting at $5.50 as she tries to extend her affinity with Adelaide where she boasts three wins from four starts.

Seradess won the Listed Cinderella Stakes at Morphettville as a two-year-old before running third in last year's Listed Redelva.

She returned to win the Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes before connections opted to bypass the Group 1 Sangster Stakes and she returned to win the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes.
