Hickmott heads to Warrnambool

3 minute read

Murray Bridge horseman Michael Hickmott’s focus will be over the border today when he saddles up promising sprinter Taunting in today’s $200,000 Listed Wangoom Handicap on Day 2 of the Warrnambool Carnival.

Taunting comes off a return to winning form in the Listed Hills Railway Stakes at Oakbank and will jump from barrier five in the feature with Jess Eaton in the saddle.

It will be the second time Taunting has run on a heavy track after getting through similar ground to win at Morphettville on the Parks in his two-year-old season.

But Michael Hickmott said a Warrnambool Heavy 10 was a very different scenario.

"I'm confident he's a horse who handles wet conditions, but this is another step up in class,'' Hickmott said.

"The horse has travelled over well and come on again from Oakbank,'' he said.

Hickmott and Eaton will team early in the day with Fortis In Armis who tackles a maiden while Pontedera goes around in the last race in what is sure to be testing conditions.
