Winning Trainer: Chris Meagher
On the run and ride: "Things didn't go to plan first-up last prep but he showed his resilience throughout the campaign. I thought he was vulnerable today, I thought he would be a little bit further back but he bounced and Craig (Williams) just sat on him. That's why you put those blokes on. He's probably about 8kgs up, I said to a few of the guys 'we've got about four lengths up our sleeve going forward.'
"I said to Craig 'just ride him how you find him', but I thought he'd probably be running third, fourth, fifth.
On what's next: "A fortnight's time, Eagle Farm, there's a nice Class 6 1400m and going on that run he's going to be very competitive."
On if he is better this campaign: "I think so. Physically, mentally. Definitely both. Mentally he's come a long way. He's still a little bit of a baby in that regard but this preparation he's showed me he's definitely come a long way."
Winning Jockey: Craig Williams
On the training performance first-up: "Chris Meagher and the stable's done a great job with him. The management between having him fresh and sharp as you saw in the run and fit enough to be able to fight them off and he was."
"We had to trust the horse's ability, the training effort by Chris Meagher and the stable and of course the horse's tenacity to get his head out front."
On his freshness: "He even put in a jump at the winning post but I'm not good at jumping."
On what's next: "I'll leave the placement to Chris Meagher and his owners, where they go with him, but hopefully I get the opportunity to ride him again."
On riding in QLD: "It's great to come up here to Queensland, the start of my Brisbane carnival. The Brisbane Racing Club and the people here at Doomben have been really accommodating for my family members that are here today. It's great to be able to start the day with a winner."
On the track conditions: "It's very good, very quick, very fair today."
