Jones and Savatoxl draw well, favourite drawn 10 in The Goodwood

Caitlin Jones couldn’t hide her delight after drawing barrier six for 2021 winner Savatoxl in Saturday’s $502,250 Group 1 Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville.

Caitlin Jones was the second last to select a barrier and is confident Savatoxl can again be prominent in South Australia's most prestigious sprint feature.

"That's the one I wanted,'' Jones said.

"I wanted anywhere between four and nine, it's worked out perfect.

"I can go in with confidence, he's an old war horse, drawn the right gate to take it up in front,'' she said.

Victorian colt Lofty Strike remains a $3.50 favourite with tab.com.au after drawing perfectly in the middle in barrier 10.

Lofty Strike was beaten seven lengths behind I Wish I Win and Giga Kick last start in the Group 1 T J Smith Stakes at Randwick on a heavy track, the clearing conditions in Adelaide this week ideal as he strives to give trainer Julius Sandhu his maiden Group 1 victory.

Godolphin pair of Zapateo, who firmed from $8 into a $6 second favourite despite drawing barrier 17, and Kallos who is an $8 third pick from barrier four are the only other horse in single figure odds.

The third of the 'Blue Army', Kementari, is a $15 chance with Jake Toeroek to ride.

Kallos has proven a revelation since Godolphin made the decision to make the ultimate gear change and geld the horse despite being a Group 2 winning three-year-old.

"He lost his way a little bit, since he was gelded, he has gone to another level,'' senior foreman Sean Keogh said.

"We've been delighted with him, the gallop a fortnight ago was pretty slick,'' he said.

Keogh said Zapateo had also thrived in Adelaide and was capable of overcoming the outside alley.

"She's super,'' Keogh said.

"It's not ideal being drawn wide, but not completely detrimental to her chances,'' he said.

Craig Williams, who won the 2017 edition aboard Vega Magic, will ride the Matt Ellerton-trained Zoutori who had specking in all-in betting on Monday and is perfectly drawn in barrier two, while Lachlan Neindorf has picked up the ride on stablemate General Beau drawn in 11.

Billy Egan will chase a second Group 1 win in as many weeks aboard Corowa sprinter Front Page, while Jordan Mallyon rides the Mitch Beer-trained Mnementh who defeated Front Page in the Wagga Town Plate last time out and has drawn barrier 16.

Sangster Stakes runner-up Another Award will jump from barrier three while Madison Lloyd will make her Group 1 riding debut aboard the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained Frankie Pinot (gate 13) as they chase a third Goodwood victory in five years.

Justin Potter has picked up the ride on Free Of Debt while Kayla Crowther will partner Larimer Street for the David Jolly stable drawn barrier 5.
